The Process
Wondering how this all works? Hopefully these steps can help you visualize what is in store for you when we work together on your website.
Let’s chat!
We can schedule a half hour phone or Skype call to gather all your information, background, inspirations, ideas, fears, excitement and questions. I want to provide you the answers you have been searching for. It’s also a chance to see if we will be a good fit for each other.
Get that paperwork out of the way!
After informally agreeing to work together, I send you an estimate to make sure I itemize all parts of your project and are on the same page. You accept this estimate on-line. Then I send a contract for you to read through, sign and send back with a 50% retainer. Usually this can all be done online as well. You are now set and I send you a confirmation of the next available start date.
The wait is over, time to design!
Finally, your start date has arrived. Usually we schedule a follow-up chat or email to see if any new ideas or inspirations have come along since our last connection. I will give you a list of items you can be working on in the meantime. Then I dive into your design and present you with drafts along the way. What helps me is if you can connect with how the designs make you feel. Is it too cold, too rough, too busy, too dark? I can then take those intuitions and fix what feels wrong into something that feels right. You don't sign off on the design until you fall in love with it.
Coding time!
Depending on how big of a project you have, this process can vary to a short amount of time inserting your banner to fully coding up a preview site on my server. Either way, I will let you know if there is anything you can be working on while I make sure all the coding is working efficiently and thoroughly tested. I then send you the link to finished quick changes I made to your existing site or the entirely new preview site. Small projects are done at this point, so you can jump ahead to the end of step five!
Dot every “i” and cross every “t”!
While the site is on my server we can make sure we fix, change and correct anything you are unhappy with. I can teach you how to use your new site and help insert all of your content or transfer blog posts. It’s our playground to get everything just right as well as see exactly what the site will look and feel like. Once you are comfortable and ready to launch, I transfer your files, test all links and functionalities, and now it’s time for us to celebrate. I do insist all my clients take time out to honor this exciting new step forward and all the hard work you have put into it. You did it! Enjoy your success! One-on-one consultations
All projects include up to three hours of one-on-one conversations through Skype, over the or phone, or throughout the process over emails. I am hear to answer every question you have along the way. ↑
IDENTITY
Font logo
Up to five design drafts of fonts and colors to create your font logo (no separate graphic or illustration). Final ready for print and web usage. Just let us know how you want to use your logo in other files and applications. ↑
SOCIAL
Social links and sharing buttons
Adding icons and links for social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Google+, RSS, email subscription and more. These appear in your sidebar and above or below each post. Sometimes as separate icons, sometimes as a full custom button. ↑
SEO fields and analytics access
I can’t provide and SEO writing services, but this will allow you to customize your titles and descriptions for every page and post, which you can change whenever you want (currently WordPress only). I also insert Google Analytics for you to see how these terms are helping your site. ↑
Print, Pin, and Google friendly recipes
If you have a food blog, many readers like to be able to print or save the recipe for later. This plugin does require you to modify each of your posts by entering your recipe into a box, but then your recipe appears in a fully customizable layout with your site colors. Your readers can print the recipe or save it to a popular recipe saving service complete with grocery list. This also helps your recipes show up in Google and will now show up underneath a pin in Pinterest. ↑
Facebook theme
Using your existing logo or site design, I can create a theme for you on Facebook that includes a large banner, posting icon and app buttons (such as Pinterest boards, posts from your blog, Instagram feeds, newsletter signup and more). Up to three design drafts. ↑
Twitter theme
Also using your existing logo or site design, a Twitter theme includes link colors, icon and background – which can also include contact info. Up to two design drafts. ↑
CONTENT PAGES
Welcome page layout
Up to three design drafts using your finished overall design to make a unique layout for your home page. ↑
Welcome page slideshow
Using your existing layout or finished overall design, inserting a large box with fading images as a slideshow on your home page. ↑
Insert and format content
Adding your text content to a preview or live site. Up to five text pages and five images. ↑
Category/recipe index
While you may have your categories in your sidebar, you might want them also on a single page. This allows you to show only the categories you want they will automatically update with your posts. ↑
Image gallery
A single large image that changes when you click on thumbnails to look through an image gallery. Includes up to ten images formatted into large and small versions. ↑
Calendar of events
I add a calendar to one page for you to update with upcoming events. This can be a Google calendar or one built into WordPress. ↑
Forms page (PDFs linked)
Inserting links to PDF forms that can be downloaded by visitors. Includes converting up to five Word documents, but doesn’t include editing any of the documents. ↑
Formatting forms
Using your Word documents and finished logo, creating forms that are easy to read, print and use. Up to three finished one-page forms. ↑
Contact form
Basic contact form that emails you at your email address of choice. Up to ten fields or boxes. ↑
ADVERTISING
Your own ad network
Are you getting serious traffic and inquiries from advertisers? Is it time to offer up ad space in your sidebar? I can set up a system within WordPress for you to add images and links in the space you want your ads to appear. Your readers will click more often on ads you personally support than random ones inserted by a generic ad network. Make sure your advertisers know this! ↑
Media kit (PDF) for advertisers
Pairing well with the ad network above, or if you already have space that you can update in your sidebar, I help you create a PDF that will knock the socks off any advertiser to get them to say yes. Requires your written content, ad rates and simple reader stats. I use your images, create a page layout and take screen shots of where the ads will appear for a clear message to advertisers that you are worth the rates you are charging. Up to five drafts and ten pages. ↑
Email list, template and campaign
Template created, list set-up and a tutorial on how to use it and create your first campaign. Up to three design drafts. ↑
SERVER & SETUP
Set-up server and install site
If you have just purchased your hosting and domain and need help with the initial setup, I am here. I can get your domain pointed correctly and have everything ready with a login so you can jump in and enter content. ↑
Private staging area
Mirror installation of website on Beneficial’s servers. This is your testing area until your site is ready, can also be used afterward for testing updates. ↑
Move all posts to a new service
If you are not happy with your current blogging service, you may want to try out some alternatives. I can evaluate your needs and tell you which will work best for you. Then I will import them for you. You may need to do some cleanup on your posts at this point. This is based on about 100 posts. I might need to add or subtract time to accommodate your post total. ↑
Coming soon page
“Business card” page with basic name and contact information until site is ready. Two design drafts and coded page uploaded to server. ↑
